The second volume of the series Castellologica Slovenica comprises articles on history, architecture and art history of Turjak Castle, one of the oldest, best known and most significant castles in Slovenia and wider region. The authors discuss the historical context of the first establishment of the medieval Turjak estate (with the Upper and Lower Turjak castles) and the first mentions of the castle in archival sources. They engage into the history of the House of Auersperg as the only owner of the castle in the long history of its existence as well as its significance in the region and in Slovenia, the architectural history of the castle, its furnishings and the castle's fate during and after the Second World War. The book sheds light on the Turjak region, Turjak market town, the nearby church of Saint Achatius, the Turjak archives and its Slovenian documents, the establishment of the Turjak parish, the role and significance of the castle, its owners and residents in the local community and in their historical memory. Comprehensive scientific articles are accompanied with rich photographs and plans.
