France Stelè. Spomini nanj, na njegovo delo in učence.

Author: Milček Komelj
Year: 2025

The book was published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of the pioneer of Slovenian art history, Franček Stele. Komelj, who had few personal contacts with Stele, grew up in a cultural family environment in which he was familiar with Stele's work from an early age and met many of Stele's students during his lifetime; the volume of reminiscences therefore also shows their affectionate attitude towards the charismatic teacher and the legacy of Stele's work in later generations of scholars. Komel's lively and sympathetic description of his memories in the enthusiasm of a writer illustrates the extraordinary historical significance of this great cosmopolitan patriot, who found his mission in the enthusiastic discovery of Slovenian artistic creation and thus also consciously affirming our cultural identity. Through Pišek's commemorative reception of Stelet's work, the reader becomes aware of Stelet's character, his views on art and life and his multifaceted cultural activities, which went far beyond the purely professional. The book vividly reveals Stelet's remarkable, soulful and yet earthly concrete image of man and creator, as well as the significant historical period and Stelet's position in it.
