The historical Goriška region, as a space of integration and conflict, has witnessed diverse migrations intertwined with major historical events and the rhythms of everyday life. These migrations have profoundly influenced the region and its inhabitants, forging, dismantling, and reshaping relationships, social communities, and cultural landscapes. Nova Gorica, founded in the wake of geopolitical shifts following the Second World War, stands as a key example of these dynamics. At the same time, the long-standing tradition of migration that defines the Goriška region and its various ethnic communities over recent centuries must not be overlooked. We aim to explore that tradition through the voices and experiences of its main protagonists – the migrants – conveyed through their stories, film testimonies, autobiographical accounts, and photographs.
