The tenth volume of Episkop is a compilation of three original essays and an announcement of four upcoming events.
The interwoven essays by Igor Vidmar, Esad Babačić, and Oto Luthar portray the cultural scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s as a high-speed train ride, while at the same time placing the emergence of a new (alternative) cultural field in the final quarter of the 20th century within the broader context of avant-garde artistic production.
The concluding part of the “catalogue” presents the Artworks of the Month — in both cases, photographs. This choice highlights the special role of photography, which — alongside photocopying, video, and fanzines — served as a central medium of punk and hardcore artistic production. Although the authors (Jane Štravs and Jernej Humar) belong to different generations, their creative processes are strikingly similar. Both developed their photographic expression while documenting the alternative music scene, producing a series of highly compelling portraits of musicians and their audiences.
