The book is dedicated to the pivotal moment twenty-two years ago, 22 May 1992, when upon being granted membership in the United Nations (UN), the Republic of Slovenia became part of the family of free, sovereign and equal nations and thus completed the process of establishing its sovereign statehood. This meant that in addition to ensuring the supremacy and independence of its authority over its own territory, it also needed to obtain the recognition of a majority of states and especially the support of all five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
